Upgrade to Wilderness First Responder

Upgrade your WAFA to the Wilderness First Responder level.

Build on your WAFA skills to transition to the scope of practice of a Wilderness First Responder. This course also serves as a recertification for eligible WFRs and WMA WEMS Upgrade graduates.

Taught in Canmore by Green Tongue Adventures under WMA International.

What to Expect

  • Min. 40 hours of instruction (Canada)
  • Advanced patient assessment, long-term patient care and wilderness protocols
  • Pass/fail evaluation based on practical patient simulations, hands-on activities and a written test

  • Wilderness First Responder certification and CPR certification on successful completion (valid three years)

Course Details

  • Daily schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Location: Canmore – 1350 Railway Ave, Unit 100
  • Prerequisite: current, non-expired WAFA certification (minimum 36 hours of instruction). Completion of the pre-course study guide is required
  • Requirements: 100% attendance is mandatory
  • Minimum age: 16
