A Paddle Canada whitewater canoe skills course to build better boat control, stroke technique, balance, communication and rescue awareness on moving water.

What to Expect

  • Strokes and manoeuvres for moving water
  • Eddy turns, peel-outs and ferries
  • Reading water and river hazards
  • Self-rescue and canoe-over-canoe rescue

  • Experienced Paddle Canada instructors
  • Paddle Canada certification on successful completion

Course Details

  • Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM daily
  • Location: Bow Valley and Kananaskis rivers
  • Prerequisites: basic flatwater canoe skills; comfortable swimming

What to Bring

  • Your own canoe and paddling gear if you have them (rentals available – ask when booking)
  • Wetsuit or dry suit, helmet and PFD
  • Warm non-cotton layers and a full change of clothes
  • Packed lunch, snacks and a water bottle
  • Notebook and pen
